How Privfox Screen works

Three calm steps before and during a share.

Privfox Screen works beside your meeting app. It does not start a share, inspect your call, or decide what is private for you.

1. Prepare with Presentation Mode

Before you begin, Privfox gives you a short checklist: close private apps, turn on Do Not Disturb manually, choose a safe window in your meeting app, and check your desktop.

Nothing is changed automatically.

You stay in control of Focus, notifications, and your meeting app's share picker.

2. Optionally use Safe Apps

You can select apps you commonly present from, such as Keynote or Safari. While Presentation Mode is active, Privfox compares the bundle identifier of the frontmost app against this local list. If another app becomes active, it can show a generic warning and put the Privacy Curtain within reach.

Privfox does not read window titles, notifications, text, screen pixels, browser history, or file contents to provide this reminder.

3. Activate the Privacy Curtain

Use the menu bar action or your configured global shortcut. Privfox immediately places an opaque, full-screen window on every active connected display. Dismiss it with the same shortcut, Escape, or the visible curtain button.

  1. Normal: Privfox is ready in the menu bar.
  2. Presenting: your checklist is complete and Safe Apps alerts are available if you enabled them.
  3. Curtain active: displays are covered, then your earlier Normal, Checklist, or Presenting state is restored on dismissal.

Important limitations

Privfox is not a capture blocker.

It cannot reliably detect every share in Zoom, Google Meet, Teams, Slack, or another conferencing app. It cannot block screenshots, screen recording, system UI, or app/window-only shares. A Privacy Curtain is most useful for a whole-display share, and you should still use your meeting app's share picker carefully.

Privfox is not antivirus, surveillance software, or a promise that private information can never be exposed. It is a deliberate preparation and emergency-covering tool.
