What Privfox Screen stores locally
Privfox Screen stores only the settings needed to work: onboarding completion, your Safe Apps list (bundle identifiers and display names), companion appearance preferences, the emergency-shortcut configuration, and whether optional alerts are enabled. These values are saved locally using macOS UserDefaults.
What Privfox Screen does not collect
- No account information
- No analytics or telemetry
- No cloud sync or backend database
- No advertising identifiers or tracking cookies
- No notification contents, screen contents, keystrokes, files, window titles, or browser history
- No network calls as part of the app's core behavior
Permissions in plain language
Basic Safe Apps alerts use standard macOS workspace activation notifications. That lets Privfox Screen learn only which app became frontmost so it can compare its bundle identifier with your Safe Apps list.
Presentation Mode, Safe Apps alerts, the Privacy Curtain, and the supported global shortcut work without Privfox Screen reading screen content or observing typed text.
Optional website links
The Get updates control opens privfox.com/updates in your default browser. Privfox Screen does not collect your email address or make newsletter requests itself. The updates page will explain the mailing provider and its data use before signup is enabled.
Website support form
If you contact Privfox through the website, we receive the information you choose to submit: your email address, optional name, selected topic, and message. Formspree processes and temporarily stores the submission so it can be delivered to Privfox. Cloudflare processes the request, IP address, and Turnstile security signals to prevent automated abuse. The private Turnstile key and support destination are not placed in the public website code.
Formspree's current free plan retains submission history for 30 days. Privfox retains a support message in the receiving inbox only as long as reasonably needed to answer the request, investigate a report, maintain necessary records, or prevent abuse. Do not submit passwords, private screen contents, meeting links, or other information that is not needed for support.
Your choices
You can remove Safe Apps, turn alerts off, change the shortcut, disable the fox, and clear the app's local settings from within the app. Removing Privfox Screen removes its local application data along with the app.
Changes to this page
Because Privfox Screen is open source, material privacy changes will be documented in release notes and in the source repository before a release is published.
